Rating: NNN
DESTINATION: Piedmont, Italy
WINE: San Pancrazio Barbera d’Asti Superiore 2007 (red) Rating: NNN
Once contained within the kingdom of Savoy, the Piedmont is famous for wine where the Barbera grape plays second fiddle to the more illustrious Nebbiolo. But second fiddles can play sweet music. Accessible cherry flavours and decent structure make this a worthwhile stopover.
FOOD: This is the land of the truffle. If you manage to sniff up a few on your travels, use them in carne cruda all’albese, a Piedmont steak tartare, the perfect travelling companion for the Barbera.
PRICE: 750 ml/$16.95
AVAILABILITY: At selected Vintages outlets as of April 3 (product #160341)
