WHAT: Chilensis Reserva Carmenère 2006 (red) Rating: NNN
WHERE: Maule Valley, Chile
WHY: Chilean wines are eminently reliable, offering good value and consistent quality, all of which is great unless you're looking for something that stands above the crowd. But the country does produce the occasional wild child like this Carmenère, showing green, resinous fun in the bouquet and lots of rambunctious flavours led by lively mocha-choca-lata ya ya. (Hey sista, go sista, soul sista.) Tame it's not.
PRICE: 750 ml/$11.95
