A weekly look at what’s on LCBO shelves
Rating: NNNN
WHAT: Jackson-Triggs Delaine Vineyard Cabernet-Merlot 2007 (red) Rating: NNNN
WHERE: Niagara Peninsula
WHY: Cabernet and Merlot in Ontario are like saxophones in rock music. When they’re good they’re very good, and when they’re bad it’s Clarence Clemons. If all the factors align – notable vintage, excellent vineyard, astute winemaking – these grapes can yield a wine that does Niagara proud. Here, cherry-berry flavours are the lovable child supported by the firm but sympathetic parenting of acidity and tannins. Invite this family over for dinner.
