Tasting notes: LCBO’s Spanish-focused speciality shop is now open

Spanish files

The LCBO’s third Products of the World specialty shop, this one focusing on fine Spanish liquids, is now open at 2946 Bloor West. The location stocks a variety of over 160 wines and spirits from Spain, including many from the LCBO’s consignment program. Since Spain offers some of the best-value wines available, this is great news for lovers of sherry, cava, brandy, Rueda or Rioja.

Eat, drink, screen

Speaking of Spain, treat yourself to next-level dinner theatre at Eatable, T.O.’s inaugural food film fest. On Sunday (October 4) at 3 and 6:30 pm, the Canadian premiere of Sherry And The Mystery Of Palo Cortado offers a glimpse into the great bodegas of Jerez de la Frontera. The screening at the Royal (608 College) is paired with pintxos and a sherry tasting ($50). Add a five-course sherry dinner inspired by the film at Bar Isabel for $200 (797 College, 416-532-2222, barisabel.com).

On Monday (October 5), 7 pm, a screening of Sergio Herman, Fucking Perfect, about the master chef, also includes Brandon Olsen’s “perfect” bites, cocktails and cinema snacks (Royal, $50). On Tuesday (October 6), 7 pm, a five-course izakaya dinner by Leemo Han of Oddseoul and Hanmoto accompanies Japanese classic Tampopo ($120 at the Great Hall, 1087 Queen West).
