The Tipperary

Few classic cocktails feature Irish whiskey. Even the Tipperary, which takes its name from an Irish county, went through various iterations before a version with whiskey was published in Harry Craddock’s iconic Savoy Cocktail Book (1930). The original recipe, which calls for ingredients in equal parts, makes a pretty disgusting drink (real talk). Big-flavour modifiers like Chartreuse can easily overwhelm the subtleties of Irish whiskey – or any spirit, for that matter – so always measure.

2 oz Jameson

1 oz sweet vermouth

½ oz green Chartreuse

Stir all ingredients well over ice. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
