Chateaubriand for Two ($95)
They don’t come any more old-school than this classy wood-panelled steak house, particularly when it comes to the hand-selected Black Angus tenderloin dinner à deux. First, they sear the 18-ounce centre cut under a hardwood charcoal grill, then finish the roast in a blazing convection oven. After the meat has rested, it’s carved at table – slightly against the grain, as tradition dictates – and served with the requisite baked potato, garlic bread and complimentary pickle platter, a gravy boat of textbook Béarnaise sauce on the side.
Do many follow the ‘briand by splashing out on the house’s equally retro baked Alaska ($33)?
“Well, they could, but they’d need a nap first,” quips owner Arron Barberian. “It’s big enough for four.”
Lunch Monday to Friday noon to 2:30 pm, dinner 5 pm to midnight, Saturday and Sunday 4:30 pm to midnight. Licensed. Access: barrier-free.
