It’s no understatement to say that 2009 was JK’s annus horribilis. Sure, his downsized Gillead Café in Corktown continues to pack ’em in, but the over-extended chef’s Wine Bar on Church popped its cork and his next-door Hank’s tanked, though both continue under new management.
But the year’s saddest letdown has to be his overhaul of the ceramics museum’s in-house café. Prefab sandwiches and salads that taste like they came out of an airport vending machine make high school cafeteria food look good.
