After sitting empty for nearly two years, Bright Pearl has reopened under new management as Gold Diamond (346-348 Spadina, at St Andrew, 647-748-6888).
And though the dim-sum carts are gone – replaced with a check-list menu – the cavernous two-story complete with mirrored disco ball still looks like a wedding is about to break out at any minute.
Daytime prices – from $2.70 (small) for steamed chicken feet to $4.80 (extra large) for steamed snow pea shoots – are higher than nearby Dim Sum King.
If you look closely at Gold Diamond’s new signage, you’ll see that the sign painter thought the name of the joint was Golden Diamond. You can see where the errant “en” has been painted over. Better than calling it Number Two Restaurant, we suppose.
