A long-time favourite of cabbies, Deny’s is a humble chicken shack whose decor will never be featured in the pages of Architectural Digest. But its rotisserie chickens ($8.99 whole/$4.99 half) are worth noting. Along with a side of paprika-dusted roasted potatoes, these classy birds make a lunch that lasts for days.

There’s also a very good homemade lasagna (Mondays only, $4.35 with a rudimentary green salad), but the slow-cooked ribs ($5.99) in horrendously saccharine barbecue sauce should be avoided at all costs.
