Caplansky’s puts food truck up for sale

For years, Zane Caplansky and Thunderin’ Thelma were inseparable. The smoked meat master’s beloved food truck was almost always seen parked outside the College St. deli. If not, they were out together at a catering gig, a food fest or a City Hall rally. But it looks like the ol’ broad (named for Caplansky’s grandma) and the deli don are finally going their separate ways.

The restaurant put the truck up for sale on Kijiji today, saying there’s a plan to purchase a new food truck (smoked meat aficionados, this is where you breathe a sigh of relief) rather than updating the 1998 Utilimaster’s gas lines. Due to the outstanding work, the price is listed at $25,000 (about $10K under the going rate for food trucks), though the ad notes it’s otherwise fully loaded with kitchen gear.

“This beast has fed hundreds of thousands of people, if not more,” the ad reads. “It would brake [can’t tell if clever pun or spelling error – ed] my heart to see this fine machine parted out, so please, take it as is!”

Godspeed, Thunderin’ Thelma.
