American dreamin’

Target may have failed, but that hasn’t stopped a long list of American chain restaurants from invading Toronto. Denny’s is downtown, Five Guys continues its expansion, Chipotle’s lineup for Mexican-adjacent fast food doesn’t seem to dwindle and another new entry, Bareburger, is up and running. Next week, burger joint Carl’s Jr. enters the mix, replacing HMV at 272 Queen West.

Though the Americans have certainly invaded, we couldn’t help but think of a few more Yankee outlets we wouldn’t mind dining in sometime soon.

TGI Friday’s

Okay, fine, there’s one at Pearson, but no one’s going to drive to the airport to enjoy the heavily advertised Endless Apps. And no one on your flight is going to appreciate the fact that you took advantage, so it seems like a waste all around. Bonus, a downtown TGI Friday’s would probably keep Jack Astor’s on its toes, meaning menu innovations like Chicken BLT Poutine for all!

Shake Shack

This New York City born chain started small, from a hot dog cart in Madison Square Park in 2001, to a chain with outposts as far flung as the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Moscow, Turkey and Las Vegas. Friends don’t go to NYC without posting an Instagram of their Shake Shack experience – wouldn’t it be fun to do the same in Toronto?

In-N-Out

When they opened a one day only pop-up shop in September of last year, the crowds went wild. At Ganzi Osteria, which played host to the venerable California chain, wristbands for the burgers ran out before the event even started. Reports of people calling in sick for work and school ran rampant that day. Seems like the market is primed for an actual In-N-Out to open its doors.

White Castle

Considering the basis for why this burger chain is so famous north of the border, the film Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle, was filmed in Toronto, it seems only natural to open one in the Big Smoke. We’ve got a feeling that the primary market for movies like Harold and Kumar, stoned bros, may also be similarly receptive to burgers like White Castle.
