Less Expensive is More
For those who would rather pay their rent than $250 for supper, Kali’s Crêpes (20 Baldwin, at McCaul, no phone) offers a bargain feed for five bucks. Located on the patio in front of the Baldwin Naturals food store, this portable crêperie is only open weekdays. Weather permitting, that’s OCAD student Amanda Bent behind the griddle under the umbrella.
Fillings come both savoury and sweet: garlicky sun-dried tomato pesto with ripped basil leaves sugary sliced Ontario peaches at their peak of ripeness in Amaretto cream or strawberries with sour cream and brown sugar. Loosely folded in foil, these delicious wraps make the ultimate Parisian street-food snack.
Take that, crêpe Suzette.
