Get Grand Electric in your headphones

You probably don’t go to your favourite restaurant for what’s playing over the PA, but good tunes are all part of the wallpaper of a great dining experience. (It can even form its own trends. I’m pretty sure there’s a 90s-rap station somewhere on Spotify called “Our Restaurant’s Hard”.)

Grand Electric and Electric Mud BBQ chefs/co-owners Colin Tooke and Ian McGrenaghan understand that relationship so deeply, they’re starting a podcast, dubbed Electric Radio, devoted to Toronto restaurants and the music they play.

Each episode will feature a guest chef, bartender, or restaurateur from the Toronto area, who will share a mix of their favourite music. Guests already lined up include Matty Mattheson (Parts & Labour, P&L Burger, Dog & Bear), Geoff Hopgood, (Hopgood’s Foodliner), Adrian Ravinsky (416 Snack Bar and People’s Eatery), Mike Webster (Bar Raval) and Matthew LaRochelle (Cold Tea).

In addition to hopefully dredging up some awesome new tunes from the Toronto food scene’s top record collections, the podcast will support the STOP Community Food Centre’s anti-poverty and anti-hunger programs. Look for the first episode to go up August 15 on iTunes or the Grand Electric and Electric Mud websites.
