Get juiced in a healthy way

Just in time for warmer weather (and anxiety over fitting into last year’s clothes), Smash Juice Bar has opened at 36 Toronto (at Adelaide East, 647-530-8939, smashjuicebar.com, @smashjuicebar). It boasts “360-degree wellness for mind and body,” and an in-house nutritionist, Aly Shoom, offers consultations and cleanse programs.

Separating itself from other juice bars across the city, Smash sells all-natural skin-care products made at its immaculate facility in Leslieville. It also carries the usual suspects: detox kits, complete raw vegan meals and snacks, kombucha, kefir water and nut milks. A stranger to kefir water, I tried the lime and turmeric option and was instantly hooked. The slight effervescence, coupled with the tang of citrus and spice, was so refreshing that I quickly downed the whole thing.

The juice bar shares its space with Clockwork Coffee and the latest outpost of Rose City Kitchen, all owned by Nipun Sharma, who plans to open more health-focused venues in the future. His idea for having the trio share one space is that patrons can visit Clockwork for breakfast, Smash for lunch and Rose City for dinner.
