Give a recipe, get some eats

The Caribbean Carnival always means a good party in Toronto – and even a festival-oriented food bank, new this year to the fest, comes with a fun, unusual twist.

For the length of the festival, the BAND Gallery and Cultural Centre (1 Lansdowne) is transforming into a Caribbean food market, where the price you pay for a few fresh ingredients is your favourite recipe.

The project starts off with a free opening bash on July 23, where guest chefs Bashir Munye of My Little Dumplings and Ikeila Wright of One Love Vegetarian will be serving up some of their favourite dishes. On selected days, stop by with a Caribbean-influenced recipe, and you’ll be given the chance to pick up some ingredients to create a classic Caribbean meal at home.

As for the recipes: Munye and Wright will choose their favourites and cook them up for the free closing party on August 8 (meaning your pelau or oxtail could be on the menu). To learn more, check out BAND’s Caribbean Food Bank on Facebook.
