Icelandic treats hit Toronto

Birgir Róbertsson has just brought the first Icelandic bakery to Toronto. Viking Bakery (2207 Danforth, at Cedarvale, 647-972-1401) offers hard to pronounce Scandinavian delicacies like kleinur (deep fried pastry, delicately twisted and similar to a cruller), kransakaka (a tiered, cone-shaped cake made with almonds, sugar and egg whites) and vinarterta (a layered torte).

But its not all Scandinavian, Róbertsson also sells donuts, dark rye bread and imperial cookies. He says that since the bakery is so new, he hasn’t had time to make everything he’s wanted to and new items will show up in the future.

Maybe Björk will make this her new favourite Toronto spot the next time she comes to town.

See listing.
