Liquid nitrogen in ice cream? Absolutely

What’s cooler than being cool? Not sure, but it looks like Kensington Market has it pretty much on lock, thanks to a slew of brand-new spots for frosty treats. Hot on the heels of the arrival of a brand-new Sweet Olenka’s location and the announcement of a new vegan ice cream spot comes the first brick-and-mortar home of a beloved CNE vendor – one that adds a mad-science twist to everyone’s favourite sweet stuff.

Eative, which received a warm reception as a food vendor at the CNE last year, specializes in liquid-nitrogen ice cream and sorbets. Yep, we said liquid nitrogen: liquid mixes for two dozen ice cream flavours – from bananas Foster and maple bacon to grapefruit-honey and spicy chocolate – get loaded into a cake mixer, doused with the freezy stuff and blended to create an instantly flash-frozen treat.

It’s totally safe to eat, in case you were wondering.

The new parlour is set to open at 228 Augusta (formerly the Tasty Corner Restaurant) within the next few weeks.
