Live Organic Food Bar closes permanently

Toronto's first raw vegan restaurant is throwing in the towel after 19 years

Live Organic Food Bar – Toronto’s first organic raw food restaurant – has closed after nearly two decades in Toronto.

The Annex restaurant at 264 Dupont, the last remaining location out of what was once a small family of eateries, shuttered this week due to what the owners say are the financial effects of COVID-19.

“It is with a heavy heart that we have made the difficult decision to not reopen our restaurant,” co-owners Christopher and Jennifer Italiano wrote on Facebook.

“When we closed our doors in March, we did not think that it would be for the last time. We anticipated that we would make it through this pandemic and thought we would be back in a few weeks to feed you all. Regrettably, as the weeks turned into months, and with the new restrictions that have been placed on the hospitality industry, we have sadly decided not to reopen.”

The Italianos added that Live Organics’ line of grocery and ready-to-eat products would continue, as would a home-delivery meal service – good news for those who grew to love their recipes over the years.
