Open-air market set to open at Union Station July 6

Union Station’s been stepping up its food game something fierce. (Gotta look good for all those new UP Express commuters.) Plans were announced earlier this spring for thousands of square feet of new food retail space (including a Burger’s Priest and Union Chicken, a new rotisserie spot from Carbon Bar’s Yannick Bigourdan), as well as a 30,000-square-foot fresh food market.

While the construction rolls ever onward inside Union on the above-mentioned projects, we can tide ourselves over during the summer with Front Street Foods, an open-air market coming to the recently revamped plaza outside the station. The vendors list for the daily market, to be held July 6 until August 30, has just been announced – and it’s nicely stacked with 25 vendors from around the city.

The most notable might be Uncle Tetsu’s, the Japanese cheesecakery that’s spawned never-ending lines since opening earlier this year. I’m curious to see how their limited, tiny-batch production translates into a market setting. If of-the-moment desserts aren’t what you’re hungry for, Cava, Bacon Nation, Little Fin and Holy Chuck will be prepping heartier fare.

Station Cold Brew, Hula Girl and Greenhouse Juice Co. will supply beverages, and Jedd’s Frozen Custard (they’re back!), Pancho’s Bakery and Melt will be doing desserts. For the full list of vendors, check out the Front Street Foods website.

65 Front West, at Bay, Monday to Friday 7 am to 9 pm, Saturday 11 am to 9 pm, Sunday 11 am to 6:30 pm.
