Queen West gets its own night market

Night markets are a burgeoning trend in Toronto, ranging from the original events that brought the Taiwanese food-stall atmosphere to the city (Night It Up, T&T Waterfront Night Market) to smaller evening events featuring shopping, music and – of course – delectable street eats.

The latest event to stake the claim to that name is the brand-new Queen West Night Market, set to hit Toronto’s main shopping drag the evening of August 18. In a departure from tradition, they aren’t shutting down the streets and installing food vendors (a nightmare for traffic, but awesome for a stroll). Instead, the event’s organizers, “product discovery network” Hubba, are installing local food vendors inside Queen West stores (Kiehl’s, Morba, Canon Blanc, Cure Apothecary, and many more) where shoppers can pop in and sample at their leisure.

So what’s on the menu? Vendors are still signing up, but expect to find spicy spreads from The Spread, homestyle Italian eats by Cucina Mauro, date-based raw vegan treats courtesy of Healthy Genie, hot sauce from Nerpy’s and even bolognese sauce beefed up with insect protein via One Hop Kitchen. Check out the event’s site for more details.
