Splendido to close by year’s end

After 25 years of wowing deep-pocketed Toronto diners on the Harbord strip, Splendido (88 Harbord, 416-929-7788, splendido.ca) is set to shut its doors. According to the Globe and Mail‘s Renee Suen, chef/owner Victor Barry plans to throw in the towel at the end of the year (the reason: “work-life balance”).

The restaurant was largely seen as one of the last holdouts of a bygone era of fine dining in Toronto, with Barry offering a locally oriented, $180-a-plate tasting menu that remained at the top of best-restaurant rankings year in and year out. If you haven’t experienced it for yourself yet, better grab a reservation before they’re booked up for good.
