Starving Artist opens a third location

Torontonians aren’t waffling about their love for Starving Artist. The waffle-oriented eatery is spreading into a bona fide mini-chain, opening its third location, at College and Ossington, next month.

The newest outpost, at 810 College (in the former home of Lit Espresso), is set to open its doors June 6. It joins the original resto (584 Lansdowne, 647-342-5058) and the second (1078 St. Clair West, 416-901-7479, starvingartistbar.com), which opened just last year. Two restaurants in a year and a half is a pretty brisk pace, but in a press release, owner Bryan Jackson explains that he’d always planned to push Starving Artist past just one or two locations.

The menu will be the same lineup familiar to regulars of fluffy, griddled delights: waffle-built Benedicts, waffle sandwiches and waffle-iron-cooked bacon.

Staff promise an “artists’ studio loft” vibe to the 1,200-square-foot room, featuring exposed brick and polished cement floors, along with rotating exhibits by local artists.

“We try to appeal to young, aspirational art types who are looking for a place to gain some inspiration while getting their brunch for a reasonable price,” Jackson says.

Apparently, feeding the muse involves a lot of waffles.
