Surreal cereal possibilities

Unlike Tony the Tiger and Jerry Seinfeld, I’ve never been the cereal type. But for those who are, like the woman behind me in line deep in the PATH system who gushes, “I could eat corn flakes all day long,” Cerealicious is culinary nirvana.

Located on the concourse level of BCE Place where it connects to Union Station, this month-old fast food outlet allows customers to customize their cravings, whether for health-conscious stuff like muesli with dried cranberries and soy milk or its opposite, Count Chocula and Reese’s Pieces in chocolate milk (both $3.25).

But there’s more to this Jetsons-style sci-fi diner than Lucky Charms and Froot Loops topped with jujubes and Gummi worms. Cerealicious’s delicious take on apple crumble ($3.95) finds hot oatmeal layered with gooey caramel sauce, crushed graham wafers and apple pie filling.

Even the plebian peanut butter sandwich gets a glam makeover when built on Ace’s multigrain and piled with sliced banana, grated coconut and fresh pineapple ($3.95 with a side of Dad’s miniature chocolate chip cookies).

How serious is Cerealicious? Watch for the Toronto-based outfit to open two more outlets in the core by year’s end.
