Yes, you can find cheap lobster in restaurants

WAH SING, double lobster, $33.95

This Chinatown mainstay has been serving lobster for over 30 years and is famed for its double lobster deal served in any of 10 different sauces. (Black bean, ginger with green onion are classics.) Be aware that “lobster” doesn’t necessarily mean a whole lobster on a recent visit I tried two kinds (there’s a $4 surcharge for two different sauces), and one dish had two tail fans while the other included 12 legs.

RODNEY’S, lobster roll, $10

The lobster roll at Rodney’s might be the best lunch deal around. A massive stack of shoestring fries accompanies a toasted shortie bun (about two-thirds of a regular flat-sided hot dog bun), and the portion of lobster meat is generous and chunky, with a light, restrained dressing.

JOEY, lobster grilled cheese sandwich, $16.75

Your feeling about the lobster grilled cheese at Joey will depend on how you feel about pairing seafood with cheese, but this standard-sized sandwich is comfort food perfection, with nice chunks of lobster, melted cheddar and B0rie and buttery fried bread. Comes with fries and a dish of seafood sauce for dipping.

ROCK LOBSTER, lobster taco, $6

Our cheapest lobster dish might also be the best. The lobster taco at Rock Lobster is a more than fair portion of unadorned lobster atop a lemony sauce, fennel, lettuce and a corn tortilla with a wedge of lime. And if that’s not filling enough, hearty lobster rolls start at $15.

EGGSPECTATIONS, lobster Benedict, $18.95

Just west of the Eaton Centre, Eggspectations actually offers three lobster dishes. Besides the Benny, which includes a generous portion of butter-poached lobster meat with poached eggs and a garlicky hollandaise, there’s also a lobster omelette and lobster mac and cheese (all $18.95).
