To celebrate Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights that marks this weekend's lunar new year, chef Debu Saha of the eponymous Biryani House (25 Wellesley, at Yonge, 416-927-9340) will be offering a special five-course tasting menu Friday through Sunday evening. Available in two versions - vegetarian ($38) and non-vegetarian ($45) - Saha's explosive lineup of traditional Subcontinental dishes executed with French technique will include the likes of lentil dumplings stuffed with spicy potato compote, sesame-encrusted baby eggplant steak in tamarind-tart peanut sauce, and Lucknow-style Cornish hen confit.
Eat no more
Eat Me, the late-night diner at Adelaide and Portland, has bitten the dust. Watch for a new vegetarian resto to take over this most greasy of spoons in the very near future.
And chef Corey Mintz has bailed from Boom Shiva (1180 Queen West, at Northcote, 416-538-1300). Management promises the joint's veggie tapas menu will stay exactly the same, typos and all.
