Café 668 moves to 885
Those living near Trinity Bellwoods Park will be dancing in the streets once they learn that Toronto's top vegetarian resto is relocating to their leafy nabe.
Café 668's Hon Quach and Ngoc Lam are selling their modest veggie haven on the fringe of Chinatown (668 Dundas West, at Denison, 416-703-0668), NOW's consistent choice for Hogtown's best herbivore kitchen since it opened five years ago, and moving into much larger digs in a former karaoke eyesore on Dundas West at Claremont opposite the 7 Eleven.
Expect a sleek new look from Kel Design, the architects responsible for the remakes of Everest on Queen and New Generation on Bloor, complete with garden terrace and first-time lineup of organic tipples.
And though the new café's address is 885, Quach and partner/chef Lam will wisely keep the name Café 668 when it launches come June.
Going, going, gone
Long-running Leslieville favourite Verveine has suddenly been shuttered. And fans of the perennially popular Mildred Pierce (99 Sudbury, at Dovercourt, 416-588-5695) should start lining up now if they want to get a table for the boîte's perverse reservation-free Sunday brunch one last time on July 29. Owners Donna Dooher and Kevin Gallagher have announced they're closing their west-side resto after a successful 17-year run. Watch for a new undisclosed location this fall.
