Ghali goes home
Toronto's only Jamaican pizzeria has resurfaced yet again. After a misguided relocation to the Queen West food court across from Citytv last winter, Ghali Kitchen (4 Greenwood, at Queen East, 416-466-5140) has returned to its east-side roots. What happened to plans to take on the late-night likes of Burrito Boyz? "We gave it a shot, but it just wasn't worth it," says the Kitchen's irrepressible George Ghali. "We're going back to what we do best -- making pizza."
Danforth fair-trade coffeehouse Niche (1364 Danforth, at Gillard, 416-466-2547) has just launched a west-side offshoot in the former Vienna Home Bakery (626 Queen West, at Markham, 416-203-0458). Those familiar with Gay Couillard 's much-loved retro luncheonette will be in for a shock when they check out the indie café's new look. Every trace of the old joint is gone, replaced by a slick design that's more Starbucks than 40s storefront, the backyard garden now resembling a miniature Versailles.
