Crash the party
If you're planning on crashing any of this year's Film Festival soirees, it helps to know where those swellegant soirees are going to take place.
Not that we've been invited, but the who's who of current cinema - and their handlers - will be partying hard at Sassafraz (100 Cumberland, at Bellair, 416-964-2222).
The 'Fraz dramatically burned to the ground in December but has risen from the ashes in time for TIFF.
The fest's other new hot spot is Mark McEwan's One (118 Yorkville, at Hazelton, 416-961-9600). Set in the new Hazelton Hotel, McEwan's latest luncheonette will be home to several private bashes.
Nearby, Greg Couillard's Spice Room & Chutney Bar and adjacent Manyata in the atrium of Hazelton Lanes (55 Hazelton, at Yorkville, 416-935-0000), Jamie Kennedy in the Gardiner Museum (111 Queen's Park, at Bloor, 416-362-1957) and C5 in the pointiest tip of the crystal ROM (100 Queen's Park, at Bloor, 416-586-7928) will also be swarming with celebs.
But if you really want to bump into Brad Pitt in the middle of the night, secure a table on the secluded patio at Michelle's Brasserie (162 Cumberland, at Avenue Road, 416-944-1504), the closest bar to the Four Seasons that permits smoking on its premises.
Drink till dawn
The cocktails continue till 4 am for the duration of the fest at the Four Seasons Hotel (21 Avenue Road, at Yorkville, 416-964-0411) and at the Park Hyatt across the street (4 Avenue Road, at Bloor, 416-925-1234). Downtown, long-time festival venues the Rosewater Supper Club (19 Toronto, at Adelaide, 416-214-5888) and the Courthouse (57 Adelaide East, at Toronto, 416-214-9379) both have extended drinking hours, while the alterna-crowd will be lining up at the Drake Hotel (1150 Queen West, at Beaconsfield, 416-531-5042) and the Century Room (580 King West, at Portland, 416-203-2226) till near morning.
But don't even bother bum-rushing the Spoke Club (600 King West, at Portland, 416-368-8448) if you want to hob with the knobs till 4 am. A private club, it won't let you in unless you belong, though you could try telling them you're a friend of Galen's.
And members of west-side swingers' club Wicked wishing to tipple between sex acts need only head downstairs to Vogue Bar (1032 Queen West, at Shaw, 416-414-9334), the fashion-themed lounge appropriately located on the first floor of the old Legion across from 999.
