Keith Coles key to city drinking

Mayoral candidate Keith Cole used to perform at the Fringe Festival then he became a fringe candidate. A long-established performance artist, filmmaker and host of the Keith Cole Experience at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre (his next show is July 9), Cole not only leads the charge for the LGBT community in this election, but he’s reaching out to the city’s drinking cohort, too.

As part of his campaign to “bring a little bit of style, a little bit of strut, a little bit of swagger back to the city,” Cole wants beer and wine sold at corner stores as well as LCBOs, as in Montreal.

In Cole’s perfect world, we’d all be able to sashay to the neighbourhood variety store and pick up locally made drinkables like Stonewall Light Lager ($1.25, LCBO #186544). Really, the name says it all. For wine, Keith’s going with a light, bright Chardonnay like the Pelee Island Unoaked ($10.95, LCBO #136044). “I was at a party where I heard somebody say, ABC – Anything But Chardonnay,'” says Cole. “So that’s it, I’m drinking Chardonnay.”

At Pride, Keith performs Friday (July 2) with BoylesqueTO at Xpace.
