Chase is on
Originally scheduled to open in late June, the hotly anticipated and heavily hyped Chase (10 Temperance, at Yonge, 647-348-7000, thechasetoronto.com, @thechaseto) looks set to open tomorrow (Friday, August 9). The seafood-centric Chase - actually two separate venues: the Chase Fish and Oyster on the first floor, the eponymous supper lounge on the roof - finds former Reds chef Michael Steh and ex-Catch toque Nigel Finley rattling the pots and pans in the kitchen while the Niagara Street Café's Anton Potvin manages generally. Sure to be wall-to-wall celebs come next month's TIFF.
Now in its 20th year, the Taste Of The Danforth food 'n' culture fest takes over Greektown from Friday to Sunday (August 9 to 11). The three-day event features more souvlaki than you can shake a stick at, as well as performances by classical guitarist Liona Boyd, TV cult figure Frank D'Angelo and an ABBA tribute band. Isn't a 'kaya
Think opening a trendy ramen resto is a licence to print money? Think again. With some 30 outposts worldwide, Tokyo-based Nejibee has closed its T.O. franchise, its first in North America. It was obscurely situated around the back of the condo at 24 Wellesley West, and its failure proves the age-old resto adage: location, location, location. Tacos don't hurt either!
