But that hasn't stopped the crew behind Yours Truly from jumping on board with the imminent launch of Shosei in the old Shaw We Go greasy spoon at 930 Queen West. Strategically situated half way between super-hot Ursa and the Splendido spin-off County General, the trendy noodle joint looks sure to be a hit if only for its location, location, location.
Over in too-cool Kensington, construction has begun on the second outpost of Jimmy's, the Portland Street coffeehouse that's taken over the space at 191 Baldwin once occupied by the notorious Hot Box Café.
"We told them not to touch anything," says Akram Dow of the eponymous middle eastern café next door.
Some may remember that his building collapsed when he attempted a similar reno a few years back.
Two doors over in the old Kensington Carpets at 193 Baldwin, Tye Thomas of Ronnie's Local 069 and Bryan Lavers - who spent four years under Dustin Gallagher at Grace - are set to officially open their Thomas Lavers Cannery and Delicatessen on Monday December 3. Look for fresh hand-pulled pastas, house-made preserves and a line of designer charcuterie sandwiches.
