Talk about not ready for prime time.
Banh Mi Boys (392 Queen W, at Spadina, 416-363-0588, banhmiboys.com) launched late last year in a gutted shawarma shack at Queen and Spadina. The Twitterati descended en masse and made the dead-cheap snackateria an instant hit. Problem was the space really wasn’t ready for the foodie crush.
After shuttering in early January to get things right, BMB reopened Monday with a completely new look. The takeaway’s kitchen has been relocated to the narrow room’s room rear making the non-stop lineups more manageable and a modish seating area’s been added up front.
New on the menu: poutine topped with kimchee, shredded short ribs and scallions ($5.99), beef cheek bao ($3.49) and duck confit Saigon subs ($7.49).
Is a rumoured second BMB still on the books?
“I want to get to the point where I can leave this place and not worry about it first,” laughs co-owner David Chau.
