You don't need to be a football fan to order takeout on Super Bowl Sunday – or any given Sunday
On February 7, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs will square off in Super Bowl LV, aka a massive excuse to order decadent nachos from your favourite Toronto restaurants.
This year’s game is expected to be the most streamed Super Bowl in history, and even if you’re not a football fan you might want to tune in and catch the Weeknd’s half-time show.
In addition to his affinity for LED spectacle, the Toronto pop star is a solid live act who’s been honing his arena chops for years. Plus it’s a chance to see a major pop star perform live on an actual stage in an actual venue in front of a mostly actual audience (7,500 vaccinated health-care workers – and 30,000 cardboard cutouts). Also: Jazmine Sullivan is singing the national anthem.
In Canada, public officials are advising people not to gather on Sunday and undo the gains we’ve made in reducing COVID-19 spread. But are they advising you on what to eat during the game? Since you can’t hang with your friends and extended family, it’s time to befriend chicken nachos, eggplant dip, buffalo wings and more – and support a local restaurant during the bleakest time of year.
Here are 10 Toronto restaurants doing Super Bowl 2021 takeout specials:
Our readers’ favourite Toronto brunch spot is doing a “mind-blowing” chicken nachos takeout special for the Super Bowl that feeds four ($50). The family-run Egyptian cafe is also offering its full menu for takeout, and there are plenty of dips and vegetarian and vegan options.

The ghost kitchen from Top Chef Canada contestant Matthew Sullivan has already made a name with Canadiana-inspired pizzas (namely alla vodka and donair sauce). For Super Bowl, Mel’s is doing buffalo-fried chicken garlic fingers, “pork 7 ways pizza,” a pizza nacho kit with pepperoni chili and creamy garlic buffalo wings. Individual prices range from $12-$19 and the full packages will set you back $60 (includes a t-shirt and dessert). Email pre-orders for pickup between 2:30-5:30 pm on February 7 to melsrealgoodpizza[at]gmail.com.
You can pick-up Lake Inez’s Super Bowl package on Saturday and reheat it on Sunday. For $125, you get five courses and a six-pack of craft beer or a bottle of wine. The football-themed items include Old Tampa Bay-spiced beef and cumin smoky chili with melted mozzarella, scallions and Fritos, and Kansas City-style smoke pulled pork sandwiches. There’s also an astro-turf cupcake. Order here.

While you wait for year-round patio season to return, you can always try our readers’ fave Mexican restaurant’s Game Day Fiesta Feast ($70-$140). The deal includes tacos, guacamole, rice and beans and churros. El Catrin is also doing a bucket of Corona special ($24) and a Patron margarita kit ($80). Pre-order here or do same-day via UberEats.

The cafe in the Beverley Hotel on Queen West is doing a Super Bowl one-two-punch special that’s available to order on Saturday and Sunday for takeout in-store or via the usual apps. In the spirit of competition, this one is billed as a chef face-off: DaiLo’s Nick Liu is doing a Big Mac Bao and Ration’s Jef Edwards is responding with a double burger and truffle fries.

If elaborate nachos are not your strong suit, this Little Italy spot is doing a Tex-Mex kit that feeds two comfortably “and one uncomfortably.” For $32, you get ancho-braised brisket and green chili queso nachos with all the fixins. It’s available for pickup and delivery this Saturday.
