In keeping with her balls-out Redneck Woman 'realness' shtick, new country's reigning babe brawler strips down (sadly, only figuratively) for this well-planned behind-the-scenes DVD. Undressed follows a sweaty post-show Wilson down cinder-block stadium corridors back to her dressing room for what she claims is a regular nightly acoustic jam session with her bandmates. While obviously staged (the so-called 'backstage' is a homey set that looks like it was designed for a backwoods episode of Friends), the pared-down versions of Skoal Ring and One Bud Wiser sound pretty dang great, with arrangements of fiddle, dobro, six-string strumming and brushed drums. After some grumbling (and swigs from a Mason jar full of Jack Daniel's), Wilson even attempts Billie Holiday's Good Morning Heartache and comes out relatively unscathed.
The painful part is her stiff, scripted voice-over. It's obviously meant to sound chatty and off-the-cuff, but Wilson's hollers of 'Yeah, I'll drink summa that now!' as she swills her whiskey on camera are embarrassing. Still, it's a brief, nicely edited package featuring material that fans can't get elsewhere, and Wilson's unabashed trashiness is awesome.
