Filmed in 2005 at Tokyo's Budokan, Rising In The East documents one night of Judas Priest's most excellent tour for Angels Of Retribution, their first album with Rob Halford in 15 years. A no-nonsense DVD with no frills or special features, it does have a scene when Halford rises above the stage with his feet engulfed in flames no, wait... in flickering yellowy-orange paper. It also captures some of the frontman's primo hand-clapping, peace-sign-saluting and thumbs-upping. This is what I love about Priest: they intermingle their evil with heartfelt expressions of love, unity and leather, giving the audience an unintentional dose of lameness that makes them endlessly entertaining and endearing. Rising In The East will sate the metal lust of the hardcore Priest aficionado and provide ample giggles to the heavy metal tourist who needs a laugh alongside the power chords.
