The shameful internment of Japanese Canadians during the Second World War in camps across Canada is one of our most under-discussed historical realities. Mona Oikawa tries to change that with her book Cartographies Of Violence: Japanese Canadian Women, Memory, And The Subjects Of The Internment ($39.95, University of Toronto), in which she interviews women survivors and their daughters and explores the effects of forced displacement. Oikawa launches the book with a panel discussion Sunday (May 11) at Another Story Bookshop. See listing.
