There's lots of health smarts out there, but it's sometimes an art to select the right expert for the right problem. Here's an intro to one expert who regularly shares her knowledge in NOW's pages.
WHO: Zorana Rose, naturopath and one-time occupational therapist. 59 Chaplin Crescent.
WHAT: Uses botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, homeopathy, traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, reiki and lifestyle counselling.
WHY NATUROPATHY: "My middle child was treated with antibiotics numerous times and became hyperactive. Life was really difficult. I took my family to a naturopathic doctor who became my mentor, and everything began to get better."
THE DEAL: "I have been practising for about 10 years. Every new patient is different; I try to analyze what is going on from every angle - not just their condition."
FAVOURITE SUPERFOOD: "Flaxseeds are best - they are phytoestrogens as well as being rich in healthy omega-3 fatty acids. They reduce the high estrogen-to-progesterone ratio of hormones that results in PMS, and help prevent breast cancer. Buy loose seeds and refrigerate. Grind a teaspoonful in a coffee grinder and use right away over cooked cereal or in juice or a shake.
BEST ADVICE: "Stress and unresolved emotional pain or trauma are at the root of what ails us. Meditate and exercise daily, and realize that most people have had trauma in their lives. This message is taped to my laptop: ‘Be kinder than necessary, because everyone you meet is struggling with something.'"
