WORLD’S BIGGEST BOOKSTORE 20 Edward, 416-977-7009, chapters.indigo.ca
Depending on how you measure the size of your bookstore (is it by selection, square footage or actual number of books?), Toronto’s first big-box reading shop lives up to its boastful name by claiming to house 20 kilometres’ worth of shelves and more titles than anyone else. Unfortunately, its ample stacks aren’t necessarily enough to keep the Chapters Indigo-owned outlet open much longer, and condo developers and superstore operators are apparently eyeing the site.
Until its fate is sealed, the Ryerson neighbour is great for book shopping beyond the texts on your class reading lists.
World’s Biggest Bookstore picks: Indigo’s back-to-school selection extends well beyond books to include e-readers like the 16GB Kobo Arc, $199.99 we’re mad for Ecojot’s mustachioed jumbo journal, $16 a Zipit monster pouch is a playful take on the standard pencil case, $9.95.
Hours: Monday to Saturday 9 am to 10 pm, Sunday 11 am to 9 pm.
