In time for cannabis legalization, this Toronto-designed vaporizer is simple enough for newbie potheads to use
By next week’s High Buys column, every Canuck will be rolling a joint and smoking it proudly – or at least, we’ll all be legally allowed to. What’ll be interesting to see as flower power spreads is how many cannabis users will be picking up a vaporizer rather than a joint, bong or brownie.
While research is still in the early stages, most mainstream surveys of pot smokers who’ve switched from smoking to vaping have noted it feels safer and less harmful. For one, you’re not lighting a fire (or having to safely extinguish it), and users are inhaling a vaporized mist rather than smoke. Vaping is also more discreet and generally close to odorless, so you can enjoy your weed indoors without smelling like a pothead.
No wonder vaporizers of all prices, sizes and styles have been entering the market the last few years. A few weeks ago, we featured the Pax 3, a stylish dual-use vaporizer priced at $260. For a similar style (black and sleek) but at a fraction of the cost, this week we tested out the LITE from Toronto’s recently launched Vapium.
The LITE is a flower-based vaporizer, which means you pack your bud into a small compartment rather than using cannabis-oil cartridges. There are eight temperature settings and it takes about 30 seconds to heat up. To charge it, plug in the USB and you can continue to use it while it charges. It’s easy to clean and simple enough for newbie vapers to use.
