We’re sorry to disappoint all the sweet-toothed boozers out there but, contrary to its name, Champagne & Cupcakes sells neither. Owner Caroline Lim does stock the Open Sundaes line of cupcake-?shaped bath bombs, which look good enough to eat but might leave your mouth a little sudsy. Otherwise, it’s all easy, pocketbook-? friendly dresses.
Once upon a time, Lim designed a line called Kity which sold in 20 shops across Canada. After six years, she tired of the wholesale grind and decided to try retail and focus on the frock market. There are 40-?plus styles on her racks at any given time, ranging from halter necklines to a trench dress studded with brass buttons. Taffeta fabrics and prints ranging from calico florals to retro polka dots fit the boutique’s whitewashed powder-room decor.
Styles turn over every two weeks, which means grad shoppers and wedding guests always have something fresh to try on. Or, if you’re like Lim and wear dresses every day, there’s no chance of ever running out of delicious looks to add to your closet.
Champagne & Cupcakes picks: The shop’s current bestseller is a pleated taffeta bubble dress with a black ribbon tie waist, $169; sweeten your tub with cotton-candy-?flavoured cupcake bubble bombs, $7; a wall of lingerie sets, including a black and hot pink heart-?print duo, are at the back of the store, $49.
Look for: A rack of discontinued Kity pieces like brocade jackets and sailor pants, priced at up to 70 per cent off.
Hours: Monday by appointment, Tuesday to Sunday noon to 7 pm.
