Cheap Joe Fresh shirts deemed unfit for Pan Am Games

Recently distributed Joe Fresh-made polo shirts for Pan Am Games volunteers didn’t pass the sniff test over concerns reflective logos may come off in the wash. Over 23,000 volunteers will help the Pan Am Games run smoothly, and each one of them gets two shirts.

“They may not withstand the rigours of the Games,” organizing committee spokesperson Teddy Katz told the Toronto Star.

“Rigours” seems to be the organizing committee’s polite euphemism for washing machines. Because, you know, sometimes people like to wash their clothes without them falling apart. Unfortunately one can’t be too picky when your garments are made under ethically suspect labour conditions in Bangladesh.

Joe Fresh, whose parent company Loblaw’s is a sponsor of the Pan Am Games, is working to replace the shirts at no cost to the organizing committee.
