The job market for personal care providers is growing rapidly. Boomers are heading into retirement and, as the years go by, will increasingly need assistance. While much of that work is still done in hospitals, retirement homes and other institutions, more and more people want individualized care at home.
Personal support work helps maintain a good standard of living for elderly and disabled people. While it does include medical-specific tasks such as physical management and medication assistance, workers also assist with cleaning and hygiene and often interact with a patient’s friends and family. Fitting, then, that home care workers must be compassionate and understanding, and have training in physical health and restorative treatment.
