Big changes are on the way in Toronto fashion this fall, and we’re not just talking about the usual closet switch-up that happens when the season turns.
Our homegrown Fashion Week has been sold to international show producer IMG, and the front-row pundits are already pondering whether that development means a more united local fashion industry or, as the long list of pre-Fashion Week, off-site presentations happening this month suggests, an explosion of even more indie style voices? Check out what designer Caitlin Power (who happens to be showing on schedule and on site) has to say about her new collection.
On the store front, our robust shopping scene is luring retailers from far and farther to our malls and main drags. We’ve got a sneak peek inside the new Gravity Pope.
As far as our wardrobes go, the shifts are no less notable. A new darkness in clothing and accessories is appearing as a counterpoint to spring’s neon hues and layered prints (yes, black is back in our fashion feature). But so are down coats and dandy menswear.
The more fashion changes, the more it stays the same.
