Dance your ass off

Since it’s dark all the time anyway, why not stay up late and dance the night away? At the very least, it’s a good way to stay warm, and more fun than going to the gym to jog on a treadmill.

Tonight (Thursday, January 22) you can catch Thom Yorke’s favourite techno duo, Berlin’s Modeselektor, at the Social (1279 Queen West).

For more soulful beats, JoshFromBlaze (aka Josh Milan, half of iconic NYC deep house duo Blaze) DJs Friday (January 23) at Suba (292 College). If you prefer your disco on the dark, moody and weird side, cab it over to Wrongbar (1279 Queen West), where Glass Candy and Nite Jewel are both playing live.

Joaquin “Joe” Claussell (pictured) is often associated with rich, atmospheric Afro-Latin-influenced house music, but he also has much love for darker electronic textures and harder rhythms. Catch him exploring his techno side at Footwork (425 Adelaide West) on Saturday (January 24).

Count on frosty, grey weather a couple of months from now, so plan ahead and get tickets for Aussie electro-rock group Cut Copy, who hit Circa (126 John) March 20.
