THE CONCEPT: The Gladstone’s alternative design event is the most conceptual of the three main shows, with an eclectic cast of more than 50 designers reimagining the hotel’s rooms and public spaces. This year’s roster includes diorama dynamo Julia Hepburn and a trio of student chair projects from the University of Waterloo.
LOOK FOR: Sandra Brewster, Jorge Dominguez and Rebecca Houston of community arts outfit SKETCH add their voices to Saturday’s (January 23) design talks, looking at how sustainable design can be accessible to everyone.
THE PARTY: Design students and scenesters descend on the Gladstone’s ballroom Saturday night for the annual Love Design Party featuring thermal heat video footage by Filiz Klassen and Dan Browne.
Friday to Sunday (January 22 to 24) at the Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen West). General admission $8. Free admission for Design Talks and the Love Design Party.
