Good news for beleaguered office workers whose bosses insist on using disposable coffee pods. Keurig, the king of disposable pods destined for eternal life in landfill, has teamed up with Office Max Grand & Toy to launch a pilot recycling program in southern Ontario. (See officemaxcanada.com/terracycle.) Apparently, the upcycling geniuses over at TerraCycle have figured out a use for K-Cups. Companies can buy into the K-Cup upcycling system for $53 and up – which may be enough to dissuade many, especially when TerraCycle recycles Tassimo discs for free (turns out Tassimo sponsors public recycling brigades while Keurig, so far, does not). The only way to truly green these machines is to purchase reusable pods and fill them with fair trade, organic coffee.
