Green Find of the Week: The Big Swim

If talk of killer heat waves around the globe and record droughts out west make you want to cry in your newspaper, might I suggest a more inspiring summer read?

Carrie Saxifrage’s The Big Swim: Coming Ashore In A World Adrift is “Eat, Pray, Love for the climate era,” as activist Tzeporah Berman put it. It’s basically one woman’s journey to turn her personal despair over the state of the planet into a quest for joy and meaningful action. It’s a funny and beautifully written trek through solo wilderness hikes, native burial grounds and frigid Pacific swims. Anyone seeking soul-stirring ways to lower their environmental footprint will want to follow Saxifrage’s lead.
