Bachelor of education degrees are generally divided into primary/junior (JK-Grade 6) and intermediate/senior (Grades 7-12). For P/J, no specific “teachable” is required. For I/S, two specializations are required (e.g., French and English or visual arts and biology).
Education is definitely not a grades-only area of study. Applicants for all B.Ed. programs are required to achieve a standard grade average (usually a minimum B-) but must also complete an application of intent, indicating volunteer and other related experience and demonstrating interest in being a teacher.
Many schools in Ontario now offer aboriginal/indigenous education degrees. Other specific teaching degrees include international, Jewish and technological education and summer science (open to students in faculties of science and engineering or environmental studies).
