In truly sustainable style, Thieves designer Sonja den Elzen and League of Lovers’ Dana Kiyoko Takeda have been foraging the Lake Ontario shore for branches to outfit their new Queen and Beaconsfield boutique. The final naturalistic concept will remain under wraps until the May 1 opening, but green shoppers craving a sneak peek at the merch can click on the just-launched online boutique.
The pair share a love of organic fibres and a misty colour palette, plus a commitment to sustainable manufacturing. They both enjoy the challenge of designing unique pieces with limited fabric options. Thieves stands out with its structured, architecturally seamed mens- and womenswear, while League of Lovers focuses on whimsical surface treatments and graphic prints.
The store will include a shared studio space where collaborative pieces, like their duffle bag pieced together from reclaimed swatches of leather, take shape. Out front, their own designs mix with chic earth-friendly clothing and accessory options by Les Fées de Bengale and Velvet Leaf Clothing.
