Go underground

Hit Funhaus (526 Queen West) tonight (Thursday, April 22) for the Beyond Fashion show, a collaboration by a diverse group of underground fashion designers and artists. Doors open at 8 pm. Food bank donations welcome. 416-850-3605.

Revolutionary Revlon

If you watch TV you’re probably already humming the catchy Ilya tune that acts as the soundtrack to Revlon’s new ad campaign featuring stars Halle Berry , Julianne Moore and models James King and Eva Mendes in a highly stylized mini-movie. They’re teasing you with 30-second hits now. Guess you’ll have to wait for the highly anticipated season close of Friends for the full one-minute whammy. Unforgettable.

Frankly Franke

Get your girls together and start a new Friday-night tradition at designer Kendra Francis ‘s Franke Boutique (920 Queen West) every week from 2 to 9 pm. For only $30 you get to sip a comp. flavoured martini while expert aesthetician Nicole LeBlanc perfectly coats your tips. Call to book ahead. I predict a lot of regulars. 416-588-8581.

Retail relief

If you’re a fashion designer with dreams of a Queen West retail space but don’t have a gazillion dollars to spend on rent, be sure to contact Josée Beaudry (jbeaudry@magma.ca), who is launching the collective retail space Willow Grant (960 Queen West) this May. Ask her about the pre-opening special. 416-533-7553. www.willowgrant.com.

Class project

After teaching textile design at her alma mater, Ryerson University, designer Annie Thompson is so impressed with her students’ work that she’s invited the class to show it off at the Art-to-Wear Show , held at her self-named store (674 Queen West), next Thursday, April 29, from 6 to 8 pm. 416-703-3843.
